Electric drift

Ken Block takes the Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron for a highly charged midnight tour of Las Vegas.

American drift artist Ken Block isn’t known for holding back. He has racked up hundreds of millions of views on YouTube with hair-raising videos where he sends specially modified rally cars sideways through mind-bending courses of his own design. For his latest stunt, he has gone all-out and all-electric, locking down the centre of Las Vegas and taking the unique Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron prototype for a tyre-burning outing of epic proportions. Sensitive passengers be warned, this is high-adrenaline stuff that will have you clutching your seat…

Named Electrikhana, this new video sees Block drift around the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, jump from a hotel car park, do ‘doughnuts’ on the Vegas strip (as well as in a hotel lobby), and leave Audi Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen looking on in amazement. It also features cameos from some of Audi Tradition’s most prized vehicles, each of which contributed to the marque’s worldwide reputation for engineering excellence and exceptional performance.

However, the real star of this film is the Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron. Developed and assembled at Audi Sport in Neckarsulm, this all-electric prototype takes design cues from a range of iconic Audi vehicles. It boasts two electric motors, all-wheel drive, a carbon-fibre chassis and power in abundance, while also being compliant with the safety standards of the FIA, motorsport’s governing body.

‘With the S1 Hoonitron we broke entirely new ground at Audi,’ says Oliver Hoffmann, Member of the Board for Technical Development at Audi AG. ‘Developing a fully electric prototype for the unique requirements of our partner Ken Block was a big and exciting challenge to which the whole team rose with flying colours. It is great to see how Vorsprung durch Technik is presented in an all-new environment.’
